The results of the 15th edition of the Zarcillo Awards 2013 were announced on 5 June. The event has resumed after a four-year break and more than 1,800 wines from 469 wineries took part.
The results were excellent for Bodegas Castelo de Medina, with our wines winning two Gold Zarcillos and three silvers. This praise is evidence of the tremendous quality of the 2012 vintage, wines from which have already received more than 20 international prizes so far in 2013.
The Bodegas Castelo de Medina wines receiving the Zarcillo de Oro were Castelo de Medina Verdejo 2012, its “third gold” so far in 2013, and Real Castelo 2012, while the Zarcillos de Plata prizes went to Castelo Ámbar 2012, Castelo de Medina Sauvignon blanc 2012 and Syté 2008, all of which have won Gold Medals in other, recent, international competitions.
In the Premios Zarcillo 2013, 450 of the 1,819 wines entered received prizes. The panel awarded 14 Grandes Zarcillos de Oro, 118 Zarcillos de Oro and 318 Zarcillos de Plata. This means that only 24.7% of all the wines presented received prizes.
